UP TO THE MINUTE

“Everyone needs an editor, even an editor.” They’re words I’ve heard for as long as I’ve been a writer and editor, usually said with a sigh or a sputter when an editor’s decision to bypass the copy desk has backfired and something idiotic has gotten into print. And imagine the groans when an advertising boss first notices, right there on Page 3, a goof in five lines of copy a store has paid thousands of dollars to print.

Some copy needs only light editing, for typos and small kinks. Other copy needs practically every phrase reworked. It takes a pro to know the difference, to see what really needs to be done – and not done. Know that I’ve been able to handle everything that’s ever been thrown at me, usually with a smile. Writers love me.

Most of my career has been as an editor at busy daily general interest newspapers. Heavy editing and rewriting, light editing, last-minute fact checking. Quickly, to beat a deadline. It’s not all murder and politics. I add sparkle to feature copy, too. And after the editing, I write headlines that win prizes!

Early in my career, I reviewed movies, wrote feature stories of all kinds, and interviewed film and theater stars – everyone from Max Von Sydow to Debbie Reynolds to Benji the Dog.

More recently, I’ve found new and exciting success on the new frontier: The Web. Click on portfolio to view work I’ve done, and imagine what I can do for you.

Writing original copy, and editing others' work, for Web sites, I’ve found my ability to quickly turn copy around serves clients especially well. I’d say it’s a win-win, but that’s ’90s-speak. I’ve always been about tomorrow.

Do you have projects to go on the Web? Products you want to market? Messages you want to put across? Why wait — let's start slinging words around! Just don’t be too loud when you call me what I am: An old pro.
